Hi,

I created a new thread because people here probably mistook my earlier post as a joke. The "advice" I got was to not go into a house alone because the scene is not secure, and not to do anything without BSI. Also I was told to "do my own homework".

Let me clarify a few things..what if the patient is your close relative, your brother/sister/parent etc? Obviously, in such a situation I would call EMS; but still I need to ensure that the patient's condition does not deteriorate significantly by the time the paramedics arrive. Also, I have thought a lot about it (done my homework) but I haven't been able to come up with a suitable solution.

Anyway here is my question:

I arrive in a room (alone, with no one else and without any equipment) and see that a man is sitting on the floor with his back supported by a wall. He is alert at first but then faints suddenly and starts to fall sideways - that is, his back is still touching the wall.

What is the best way to stabilise the patient as well as maintain an open airway? What extra precautions to take if he has spinal/head injuries?

Sit up against a wall. Fall over sideways. Do you have a head or neck injury?

Catch him. Ease him to the floor. Keep his airway open. Call 911.
