Paramedic Question

I kind of want to volunteer as a paramedic here (rural louisiana) but I don't want to do it as a career. I already work as a volunteer firefighter but I'd like to have more skills. I'm not hiding anything.

There is such a thing as volunteer paramedics? That really scares me....legitimantly made me shiver. Course then again I am basing my opinions of vollys off the local bls departments in my area who have been know to attempt cpr on people who fight them off and scream at them to stop pushing on their chest. If you wanna train as a paramedic, my suggestion is to train like you wanna do it professionally...who knows? You might just catch the bug that most of us have already caught.

I volunteer as a paramedic along with a handful of others, but we're held to the same standards as any paid paramedic would be. There is no difference between a volunteer and a paid paramedic. The only difference is in terms of how their organization holds them accountable. In my department's case there is no difference.

Ok like I said I only have local area knowledge where they hold to the logic of "were just volunteers so we don't need to be as good" mentality. I'm glad that other volunteer agencies hold themselves to the "paid" standard. Props to you Christopher I meant no insult to you or your co workers I'm sure you guys are much more legit than the departments ive dealt with.
