Greetings all! My name is Jon. First post, but lurked here a little. I was hoping for some input on a problem I am having. I work for a BLS company in LA County. I had a shift on Saturday, scheduled at 1200 for 8 hours. 3 hours in, Supe calls me and asks if I can finish out a 24 because a crewmember had a family emergency. I agreed, cuz I have trouble saying no. Shift ends at 0700 Sunday. 19 hours worked. I check my timesheet online yesterday and find that the scheduler has overidden the overtime pay to calculate it as a regularly scheduled 24-hour shift, even though it was not a regularly scheduled shift and I am normally paid at Daily 8 OT, so regular 8-hour OT rules. This means I should have 8 hours of regular pay, 4 hours at 1.5 times, and 7 hours at 2-times. Is it right for them to make that change? Do they owe me all that OT pay?

However, your questions should be asked of your HR, your supervisor and payroll department first. Once you have that information, you then need to decide if you want to take the butt hurt reply they will give you and go outside and above their head.
What you should not do is come here for answers when you have not exhausted the resources at your place of employment first.
Just saying you would get a lot more accomplished talking with them there, than us here.

Ask your supervisor. My company would give us the time and a half, or double time just as an incentive to fill it.
Honestly, when you work a 24, and a 12 in the same pay period, or days. It makes things really complicated for the timekeeper and payroll, so mistakes will happen.

Unfortunately, I would just leave it and if they ever ask you to do OT, explicitly ask them about the pay rate for it, and see if they will text you it. Don't make a big stink about this time and just use it as a lesson learned while applying at the major corporation companies (AMR, Bowers, Etc)

You could always ask the experts...... And yes, you can inquire anonymously. As the old saying goes, if they have nothing to hide, and are doing nothing wrong, they wouldn't object to discussing it with the proper authorities.

EMS in LA is a very tight knit group with the BS private IFT companies. If they get word of him trying to go after them, he will find himself out of a job and unable to get hired nearly anywhere else. The majority of the IFT's in LA are ran by the mob and are laundering schemes.

That is why you inquire, and even file the complaint anonymously.... If they are doing it to one person, they are probably doing it to many, and they won't just ask about one instance, they will ask for multiple questions, and you don't have to give your name.
Agencies and companies often take advantage of ignorant personnel, and people who are too afraid to come forward when something isn't right. And sometimes, the companies have a misinterpretation of the way the law works. Let the Labor board investigate, they are really good at making sure everything is legit, esp when the company isn't complying with the proper hour and wage laws.
