Hey guys, I'm going to be taking a trip to New Jersey here in the next few days. I live in WV and have permits through the state fire marshall and EMS office. I have one window light and two in my grille (all are clear looking until they are turned on - as they are LEDs).

Is it legal for me to have them on my truck when I go on vacation?

In some states you can get a citation just for having them. Its best to remove them completely. You could cover them but I have heard stories at Officer.com about people getting cited/towed after crossing state lines with their equipment.

it depends.

if the state your going to requires a permit to display(regardless of activation) lights of ANY color, then you would be in violation.

if the state your going to only requires a permit for certain colors and your lights are of those colors, then you would be in violation if they are activated.

if the state your going to only regulates lights that are displaying a color that is restricted, then your led's shouldnt violate that law as when deactivated, they show no color.

you can do a few things. one, chance it. two, call the state police dept of the state your travelling to and ask them. three, cover them up(duct tape works). four, the obvious, remove the units until you return.

google will eventually lead you to the information you seek, but im not doing your research for you.

NJ allows volunteers to use blue lights with a permit. Whether you have a problem or not will depend on the particular P.O. or trooper. I would check with the NJ state police. I would also at the very least remove the light in the windshield and cover up the grill lights. Also make sure you have your permit with you, just in case.

How much of a pain is it to remove them from your vehicle and re-mount them when you get home? if it that bad then cover them with black electrical tape so that they blend in with your grill. if a trooper can see them while your moving...then inform his supervisor that he has superman working for him.B)

Above poster, well put. Just remove them and spare yourself the hassle.
