Police: Diabetic Man Missing After Being Kicked Off Train

PHOENIX - A 65-year-old St. Louis man went missing outside Williams, Ariz., after he was kicked off an Amtrak train in the middle of a national forest, Williams police said.

Police said Roosevelt Sims was headed to Los Angeles but was asked to leave the train shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday at a railroad crossing five miles outside Williams.

Police said there is no train station or running water at the crossing, which is about two miles from the nearest road.

WILLIAMS, Ariz. (AP) -- A 65-year-old St. Louis man who disappeared Sunday night in northern Arizona after being escorted off an Amtrak train bound for Los Angeles has been found in the area where he got off the train.

The Williams Police Department says a sheriff's deputy who had been involved in a search for Roosevelt Sims spotted him about 9:40 p.m. last night walking along the railroad track some three miles southeast of Williams.

That one was a big news story too. It can be nearly impossible for a non-medical person to tell the difference between a drunk and diabetic though.

How about basic first aid? Every class format I've ever taught has a reference to the similarities between diabetic and drunk.

Anytime you have an altered mental status, please make sure to get a blood/glucose reading before making presumptions; however--the layperson doesn't have this privelege.
