I am researching the best route for EMT certification. I am considering either emtsacademy.com or Austin Community College. ACC is definitely more bureaucratic with their entrance requirements and rigorous with their training I assuming, however EMTS Academy appears to also provide a good education. Both are located in the Austin area, and I would get field experience with both. EMTS Academy is cheaper as well and there are ALOT less hoops to jump through to get in and complete the courses. Do employers put alot of weight in how you got your certification? Do they look down on online programs? Any help is appreciated.

In my experience, most employers don't care too much where you get it from, so long as you have it. Granted, some programs carry more leverage than others for notably sending out good and qualified students.

At the EMT level? No, it really doesn't matter that much, get what works best for you and your schedule and finances.

Some people learn better online, some better in class. As long as all other things are equal, there's really no issue with either.

Thanks Linuss! I'll go the online route then.

Check out Percomonline.com if you decide online is for you. Quality online education is not an easy way to get certified.

Linuss has it. At the basic level, as long as you have your cert, they really don't care all that much. Now at the paramedic level, it's a little different. Some schools are more prestiges then others. For example, one of the local colleges here is known for turning out unprepared students. I've talked to a few and they were saying that they were having a difficult time with the NR test. On the other hand one of the universities and community colleges turn out great students and most don't have issues with the NR.

You will get out of this program what you put into it. If your dedicated and put time in it will show. If you could, I would contact some of the previous students of each and see what they have to say. It is just for your basic, but if you are that concerned just do a lot of research.

This probably goes without saying, but I'll say it. If you are doing an online class, be prepared to have to do twice the work (just from my experience.) You have to study but you don't have someone there to thoroughly explain it. This may not be the case but just be prepared. And all of the responsibility of setting up clinicals will most likely fall on your shoulders. So on top of studying you're trying to keep up with all of that. It may be a great program and I hope things work out for you but I tend to find traditional classes more educational.
