Hey guys, my dad got into an accident 2 weeks ago, car was totaled. He came out fine with a few scrapes and bruises. His car hit the side of another car and did a front flip over it, then he rolled 3-4 times at 65-70 mph.

Its been 2 weeks, And hes been feeling random numbness in his left arm and lips.

He went to the docter to get it checked out, and they didn't do anything, hes going to go back again.

Every time he had the numbness I checked him out, did vitals just to see.

S numbness in left arm and lips (random numbness)
A none
M Medication for high b/p
P high blood pressure (family has history of heart disease)

Hes been running alot and eating healthy.

I checked him out 3 times tonight, all 3 times he had numbness in his left arm.

No pain, just a numb feeling.

pulse in the left arm is strong and normal

blood pressure in left arm: 124/86
blood pressure in right arm: 120/84

Any thoughts?

It ain't random. It might be nerve damage of the cerivcal spine from the flipping of the car. Arm numbness is, I believe, from C7. MOI alone says it is probable.

Get CT's, maybe even MRI. If already done, repeat. Can't hurt. If either one hasn't already been performed, then someone's *** needs to be chewed; up to and including your father's. For reference as to why I'm this serious, check above MOI.

I agree it could be nerve damage, or inflammation of the nerves itself. I agree a MRI might be warranted, doubtful they did one in ER, they are costly.

If not better, I suggest a f/u with an ortho or neuro.

Depends on where in the arm for spinal location. The nerves going to the arm all come from the brachial plexus which is C5-8 and T-1. The location of the pain would determin which nerve/s might be injured, but even then, the plexus branches quite a bit which causes multiple roots to be involved with any specific nerve.
 
Time for your dad to revisit the doctor for a follow up.
 
low cervical vertebrae impinging on the brachial plexus. needs an mri immediatley.

ever hear a story of someone who declines treatment at the scene of an mva, only to present to the er later with neck pain. upon exam found to have a c2, c3 etc fx. it happens. get him checked out. that accident sounds like quite the significant moi.
 
I'm currently working as a physical therapy aide while I'm going to school and training to be an EMT. We get a lot of pts that complain of numbness in their upper extremities and lower extremities. Most common problem?....bad posture that leads to slipped/bulging discs, which lead to decreased intervertebral foramen (space between vertebrae where nerves run through). This decreased space pinches down on the nerves and often cause numbness depending on where they lead to. Sounds like the accident might have tweeked his neck and caused nerve pressure. I have a bulging disc between L4/L5 which was caused by MMA fight training and it hurts soooooo bad, I get referred numbness and pain down my leg all the time, going in for my cortizone shot next week
 
My dad was in a similar accident over three months ago, and finally convinced the docs to do a MRI. He now has to have back surgery. Tell him to get it checked out.
