What exactly needs to be brought with you to apply for your license at the EMSA office? I think I may be getting a little ahead of myself... I only passed my NREMT yesterday so i'm assuming I cannot proceed further until I receive my certificate? Im only guessing this because DMV requires the certificate for the ambulance test as well.. am I wrong or can I get this all hammered out asap without having to wait a week or two for my cert. to be mailed to me?
Any advice would be great, thanks!

well in california they required that i bring my nremt card my cpr card my course completion certificate and a copy of the passed letter that you can print off the reg' website,

plus my drivers license, and of course the requisite fist full of cash for the actual state license/picture i.d. card

lot of chit' huh?

so yup you have to wait until your reg' card is mailed to you, what you can get out of the way now i believe is your live scan doj/fbi background check,
in california its supposed to take just a couple of days for your results, but with the budget cuts there aren't enough paper pushers in sacramento to do them quickly, took them 9 working days to get mine back!
jerks!

Where do I go about getting my background stuff started? And does it matter if i'm already in the livescan system because i've already got a state job/work with children?

you probably will have to get a live scan again for your cert, when was your last one done?

Livescan can be done at a bunch of private locations as well as pretty much all police stations. You'll need one for your state license and a separate one for your ambulance drivers certificate (which you probably won't need if you're under 21, but I'd suggest getting it anyways). Unfortunately, because of California privacy laws, the background check is destroyed unless it hurts you and agencies can't share the results, so you'll need both new ones, and a separate one for the DMV and for the EMSA.

And don't forget money. California makes you give them $70-75 in the form of money order or cashiers check. Then your County will make you pay $20-40.

Pretty much everytime you see the word livescan that means you are going to need a new one.

Can I just go in and request the background and state why? My previous backgrounds my places of employment had a paper for me to bring in with the information and what not.

If you go online to the county you want to get your certs from they should have a livescan form that you fill out and then it gets mailed along with your fingerprints and background check.

when I go, I bring:

1.NREMT Card
2. Driver's License
3. SS card
4. EVOC Card
5. CPR Card
6. State licensure card
7. 7 year driver history printout

if you come prepared you will impress the employer
