Hey guys,

I just graduated from my basic program and got certified about a month ago and received my first job for a private company last week. You guys got any tips for a newbie? What are some things you wish you knew once you got started?

Thanks.

actually i did but i couldn't really find anything that answered my question...

Okay... Anything specific you want to know?

As far as general tips,

Show up on time.
Don't be a jerk to co workers or patients.
Take pride in your appearance.
Never stop learning.

...and DO NOT get involved in the company gossip machine.

To add to my previous post...

-Not everybody needs a nonrebreather at 15lpm (or oxygen at all for that matter)

-Just because a patient fell out of bed, slid out of a wheelchair, slept on the ground, or thought about falling two weeks ago, it does not mean they need full spinal immobilization.

-Don't set your stethoscope down. Ever.

-Lights and sirens do not mean drive like a bat out of hell.

-Not every call is as time sensitive as you have been led to believe.

-Set your ego aside and understand your limitations. Know when the patient can benefit from having a higher level provider on scene.

-If you have questions about boots, pants, stethoscopes, light bars, flashlights, bat belts, or whether you should keep a Mac or Miller blade in your BLS off duty jump bag... SEARCH! :) 99% of the time, somebody else has had the same question, and it has been answered ad nauseum.

whether you should keep a Mac or Miller blade in your BLS off duty jump bag

C'mon everyone knows you should have 1 of each size of both.

More importantly a surgical cric kit!

:P:rofl:

I'm not scared to admit if i don't know how to do anything, but i am nervous for when that will happen because i know it definitely will.

Thanks, guys!
