same with california... i thought everywhere required you to be a working EMT for at least one year before applying to medic school.

Definitely seems to be the case in WA... I'm in two minds... I know a lot of people are opposed (the "we don't make an MD be a PA first"), and I can understand that, but there are good arguments for the requirement, too (although if we moved to a system of FRs and EMT-Ps, then there might be differences in the methodology there, too).

Well I went to school today and talked to a few people. My community college is associated with a fire certificate program. So on sept. 10 I am going to put in an application for both fire and medic.

With the fire I believe I can have all my tuition/books payed for with the "rapid recovery act" since I was layed off not to long ago. Just have to get bunker gear.

So if I don't get into fire than I will have to pray that the medic doesn't fill and I can get my nremt in. (Although it's unlikely I wont get into fire)

Now that I have a "plan B" I don't feel quite as stressed. Kinda sucks though I really wanted to go through medic first then do fire, because the fire program I'll be signing up for through the the community college is 7 months long. The other fire academy is 3 months long but there is a year waiting list. But an extra four months aint gonna kill me

Always good to have a plan b. Four months will pass before you notice.

Do any of you know anything about this "Rapid Recovery Act" and what it takes to qualify?
