I'm hoping that someone from Florida that has been through the re-cert process can tell me what it is I need to do in order to re-cert.

I know that I certified in the middle of the 2 year cycle for Florida and that my Cert expires on December 1st of this year. What I don't know is what I need in order to re-certify. I did a search on google and it brought up the Florida website for EMS, but it doesn't say anything about the re-certification process.

I was also told that I don't need to have CE credits to re-certify for my first re-certification, but I want to see that in writing somewhere before I believe it.

Can anyone give me a website that will tell me all that is required?

With the NREMT, they at least give you that information on how to re-certify.

Thanks in advance,

Not sure on your CE's for first recert, call the state and ask?

They will send you a recert card in the mail and you send them the money. Or you can do it online.

If you had brought up the correct website, it will give you most of the information you are seeking. If it doesn't answer your questions, there are numerous ways to contact the Florida DOH listed on that site.

This is the main page for EMS.
http://www.doh.state.fl.us/demo/EMS/

Become very familar with it since there is a ton of valuable information contained in that website.

To the left it says "EMT and Paramedic Certifications". Click on that.
You will get this page:
http://www.doh.state.fl.us/demo/EMS/EMT_Paramedic/EMTParamedichome.html

It will then direct you to the page with all the certification and recert information.

http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/EMT-Paramedic/emt-lic-requirements.html

From that page you can get all the contact info which is also listed on the very first page of the EMS website.

http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/licensure_contact.html

Review the whole website as you'll find trauma and DNR protocols, state statutes, listings of stroke and trauma centers, public health issues and pediatric concerns.

You might also want to signup for the EMS newletter to stay updated. It is your responsibility to stay informed of any changes concerning your certification.

For your first renewal, you only need a current CPR card at the time of renewal and you also need 2hr HIV/AIDS CEU. Then pay the 20 bucks for the renewal on the website. After that you need all 32hrs of CEUS and CPR to renew.
