Hello,

I just registered today but I've been roaming this forum for a few days straight. From my observation, you guys seem like a great, friendly ems community.

A little about me:
I am 17 years of age and reside in Raleigh County, WV. When I turn 18 I will do my certification course to become a EMT-P, but for now I am currently pursuing my MFR certification. I look forward to it and hope I provide the best care I can.

Thanks!
Richie

Good Luck Richie

Good Luck Richie !

In our systems we sometimes fought with each other but when the time came we stuck together. Now that many of us who started /EMS in our county are retired, we still remain close. EMS gets in your blood for sure. No pon included.

Welcome! I strongly suggest you take the EMT-B course before EMT-P

That's what I will do. Thanks. :)

and on the same note, spend some time as an EMT-B before you go for your EMT-P. I'm still new, but it's amazing how many EMT-Ps I see that just don't know their BLS skills since they went from zero to hero.

This is a matter of great debate.

I am not new, and have been an instructor up until August for many years, my unwaivering advice is to go to paramedic class as soon as possible.

OP:

Wlecome to the clan.

A good paramedic is a good EMT first ! Learn the basics well. I've seen so many paramedics make simple mistakes. again good luck to you. Gary

I say Paramedic school right out of EMT school. You have less time to develop bad habits and the EMT-B content is still fresh into your mind.

Also, if you come out of EMT school without BLS competency, you probably weren't in a good program.

Just my $0.02
