Some things can't be recertified by exam, and I can use most of my CEs to renew all of my licenses and board certs.

Same here. What makes things a little difficult is that I have a license expiring every year... so I have to keep up with doing my CE all the time. The hardest thing is just keeping track of what license I can apply an earned CE to.
