Need advice please

I'm planning to go back to school for career training and I have thought about becoming an EMT. My question is...I got a misdemeanor conviction for cruelty to children in SC in 2015. The charge should have been something else as I never abused my daughter...that's a whole different story. It had to do with the condition of my home. It was old and falling apart. I now live in NC. I know with certain convictions esp against children you cannot do certain work. Can I still become an EMT and have a chance of getting a job, or should I seek another occupation?

I'd call the local and state EMS agency (whichever handles and processes EMT/Paramedic licensing) and inquire. They'll be the ones that can let you know for certain.
