Hey everybody!!!
I haven't been on this in ages cause I have been ohh so busy working. Anyhoo this is whats up. I go a new job working for an EMT company in Santa Clara County, CA. This company does BLS interfacility transports for the county. Aside from that I am also doing BLS for Alameda County..right next to Santa Clara County. I really enjoy it and the people I work with are great EMTs. Im getting a lot of patient contacts mostly medical patients but I had 2 trauma incidents that I delt with.
My first day of non-paid ride-a-long was really quiet until about 5pm. We were driving back to quarters when we saw an accident ahead of us. Fire Department has not shown up yet and neither did the Highway Patrol. We stopped, radioed our dispatch and went to check out the scene. The car was messed up. Aparently what happened was someone in a pick-up tried to back out on the freeway and a Honda just smashed right into the back. Well we got to the guy in the Honda and started to assess him. I was with two other EMTs and I went in and held C-spine while the other EMT controlled the bleeding and did a trauma assesment. We were there about 2 minutes then the fire engine rolled up and fire medic came out and took over. The took the guy out on the backboard and at that time AMR showed up and took care of the guy. For a first day that was pretty awesome to be the first ones on scene and actually help someone.
My other trauma was at a concert that I was doing a stand-by for. Some lady was hit with a beer bottle on the head and it left a small laceration. That night was so crazy. People getting drunk, starting fights, passing out from drinking, throwing bottles. It was just 3 EMTs and the rest were cops. We had quite a handful. But it was great experience.
Well thats enough for now. I got to get up early for a day car shift @10. Take care all.
