NH Department of Health and Human Services (NH DHHS) recommends:
1) Awareness of mosquito-borne diseases in NH, including Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) and West Nile Virus (WNV).
2) Vigilance and prompt treatment for mosquito-borne disease in patients with compatible clinical features.
3) Timely reporting of suspect and confirmed cases of mosquito-borne diseases to NH DHHS Communicable Disease Control and Surveillance Section at 603-271-4496 (after hours 800-852-3345 ext. 5300).
4) Prevention measures include avoiding mosquito bites by use of protective clothing and insect repellents, and environmental reduction of mosquito populations.
5) Equine vaccines for EEE and WNV are available and should be used to protect horses. There are no recommended vaccines for humans.
