I was wondering if medicwest and AMR in Vegas get to deal with the critical patients, it seems like the Fire departments deal with and transports all those patients? I was just seeing if people could give me some info about how the system is ran there. I know REMSA in Reno runs the show and is a great company and was wondering if Vegas is anything like that.

They do sometimes for sure but generally fire runs the show.

And you're right about REMSA, their medic is the medical authority which is how it should be....

I have thought about applying there, I am not yet a paramedic but almost a emt-I. when I am A paramedic i want to be able to use my skills and be in charge of the scene like a medic should be. I know it will be great experience but not if fire is in charge of everything then takes all the good calls. They are talking about fire getting out of EMS or taking over completely down there.

They've been talking about that for years, nothing has ever changed.

I know lots of people that do or have worked for all three companies you talked about, I may or may not work/have worked for one of them.

Most loved AMR or MW but a few couldn't get out of there fast enough. I know guys that wanted to go back to Vegas from Reno and visa versa.

It's farking hot in Vegas, no thank you.

Any of those companies would be good for a new medic, REMSA you'll run the show more but there will be times in Vegas that you do as well. Call volume per unit is about the same, there's just twice as m any units down there if not more. I've been told by someone that dispatched for AMR that they generally deploy~ 40 units daily but that's just word of mouth so take it for what it's worth.

Vegas has its own OEMS, well Clark County does. They do sketchy etomidate only MAIs, hellllllooooooooo trismus. Other than that they have pretty standard protocols, not ground breaking but not insanely restrictive either. Same goes for REMSA, just no MAI in Northern NV for paramedics.

Good luck!

Ya I know where you work due to your posts. I won't say where since it seem like you don't want people to know. I have had family work where you work and loved it but now are gone. I have though about starting my career there to.

Yea it's really not to difficult to figure out haha. Especially with as few agencies Nevada has.

So Robb, have you though about going to Vegas to work. You seem to know quit a bit about the system down there, or is it just something that crossed your mind and by talking to people from down there ( then you realized it was to hot ha). Do you like the system your in to much to move somewhere else.

It's crossed my mind but I'm sitting pretty as far as seniority goes for shift bid, I like my coworkers, the system and LOVE the surrounding area. I'm a firm believer that you should live where you love and find a job to make it happen rather than the other way around. I've just talked to a lot of people that worked for all of the above, done a lot of research, talked to HR reps when I was considering moving. My old partner when I was an I worked for AMR-LV as well.
