My names Jake and I started an EMT class after being an unemployed IT Support guy for the last year and a half. This is the only thing that I was interested in aside from another IT job. (ok so I wasn't looking forward to it) It's a 6 week class and we just had our midterm practicle and test.

I found this site after a quick search in anticipation of the National Test after school is done.

Our class started with 77 people and we are down to about 50, not counting the ones that dropped or were dropped today. The practicle was pass/drop, so if you passed your good, but if you failed they dropped you.

My grades are so far:

CPR/AED (pass/drop): 100% pass
Test 1: 93.5 % A
Test 2: 83.8% B
Midterm Practicle (pass/drop) 100% pass

Today the instructor doing the BP testing gave each person one shot on your partner of your chosing. I chose one of the 14 hot women in the class. I got my numbers and he wrote what he got on a piece of paper. I told him what I got and was on the money. He told me that in 10 years of helping with the class that I'm the 15th student to get the same numbers. It was noted on my skill signoff sheet.

I'm totally stoked to be 3 weeks away from graduation.

I've done a couple ridealongs with LA County Fire/Paramedics and AMR and it was exciting.

Just checking in to say Hi and hope to get some good information from the forum.

thanks for reading
jake

Hey, Jake. I'm Kasey. I see you've done ridealongs in LA, I'm down in OC. What school are you going to? I'd rather do a 6-week course, then the 5 month course I am currently enrolled in!

Welcome. I'm pretty new here, recent EMT-B cert, but I've learned a ton from the scenerios thus far. Hop in and join the fun.

I'm unemployed/broke so my gf put up the 140 bucks to goto Pasadena City College.

I'm studying my rear end off... I'll go put in 6-7 hours tonight.

6 weeks is rough.

I've never had a class/school in my 40years of living that was as hard as this class. It's a lot of information to digest and very little is given to you, I've had to work my *** off for it.

I'll reply later tongiht after studying some more.

thanks

a 6 week class? do you actually learn anything in such a short time? hell my 5 month class didn't cover alot lol

6 weeks, damn. Is that a Monday - Friday class? How many credit hours?

Keep in mind that with EMS, education is forever ongoing :P

OUCH! 6 weeks? I'm in a 10 week program that runs 3 nights a week, 4 hours a night. I was an EMT years ago so the class is more or less a refresher for me covering information I'm already familiar with. Can’t imagine doing it cold in just 6 weeks.

Good Luck,
W-W

my EMT-B class was 8 weeks..A little rough but not to bad

Just remember that the first few weeks of class are the hardest. That's when you get all the information. After that it's pretty repetitive.

My class was from January to May. After the first three months it was all repetitive so it was fun. Our class instructor wasn't all crazy about blood pressures. If you're within the 10 point range of the actual blood pressure, you should be fine. UNLESS you're trying to give Nitro, then you gotta be pretty exact.

IT is a tough business to be into now-a-days. Sending all of the support to India and other companies so I'm glad you're getting the chance to do this.
When you're done with class and ready to move on this forum has great support and connections to different job sites and agencies in California.

Also, $140 for EMT class? I paid at least $1,400.

It's a 5credit class and they are trying to make it 7.

I honestly didn't know squat about the medical field but in the last 3 weeks I've learned a lot. Probably does not contain everthing I'll ever need but it seems like some good info.

I'm putting in 60-70 hours a week of studying in.

I honestly have no way of judging the content as I've never been in the medical field. The class is hard, definatly a lot of info to digest, they don't give much away in whats on the test and very few hints.

I've read probably 700 pages of the book, taken close to 200 pages of notes and study that 60-70 hours a week... and I consider myself a fairly smart guy.

I've heard there are 2 week classes somewhere near Long Beach.. but I don't know how that's possilbe.

My class hours are M/W 6-10, F 9-5, Sat 9-5.

First of all, I'd like to welcome a fellow Mustang owner to the forums :)

Second, 6 weeks is really short, hell my class was around 6 months I believe. However, it sounds like you're incredibly dedicated to it, so keep up the studying and enjoy all that you're learning!

On a side note, I just got my acceptance letter to my schools paramedic course :D

I love the class and the instructors are awesome. One of my mustang buddies has known them for 25 years when he first started. I'm learning a lot more than I thought I would.

The bonus is that there are some hot ladies in the class and I always seem to take them as partners.

When I was in IT (computer crap) I had at some point, not a lot to do so I signed up on myspace and somehow ended up adding a girl that lived in Beverly Hills next to where I worked. For 5+ years I talked to her off/on every few weeks etc... forward to day 1 of class.

I'm sitting there and I look around the room at the 77 or so people in the room and there's a girl sitting on the other side, waving at me and smiling. I had to take a second look around me because I'm 40 and these girls are all 24 and younger except 1. Sure enough it was her, from myspace.

go figure.

anyway... gotta get back to reading. I know nothing about this next weeks test/reading assignments.

I guess all I can say is hello and good luck although it doesn't sound like you need it.

I'm taking the EMT basic course also, my course is 8 Weeks long (I'll be finished in 3 weeks!) , Monday-Thursday 5:30pm-10pm. I can't imagine going thru everything in 6 weeks! I've also dropped about 600$ on uniform, supplies, medical exam, background check etc.

I see your not too far from me....where did you take your course?

wow

Some of the prices for EMT classes are absurd. 1400? Any local JC will offer a 5-7 unit EMT class for about $20/unit plus another 100-150 for the books. Well good luck guys, you will look back in your EMT class later on in your career and realise how easy it is after you get some experiance.
