Hello! I'm a new member, my name is Sharon. I'm a CNA of 2 years currently looking into EMT classes. I became a CNA to figure out whether or not I wanted to be a nurse. I love the medical field, although, I am not a fan of nursing. -_- Currently my only and biggest fear about becoming an EMT is driving the ambulance. haha. I'm terrible with streets. I'm sure it's something I'll become more comfortable with in time but man...embarrassing! :blush:
Otherwise, I'm very excited about my choice and what's to come!

Hey!!! Welcome to the site. I'm also a CNA in the same situation your in. Well kinda, I'm in college to be an RN, and if I passed my nationals I want to double major in both Nursing and Paramedic Science. Good luck with your classes and certification tests, and again, welcome to the site.
 
awesome. thank you thank you. =) I was in college headed towards occupational therapy, but it doesn't have that energy I'm looking for.
 
I had a good friend and classmate who was also planning on being a nurse, but didnt like it, so she choose occupational therapy, and loved it. But she thought nursing was too fast paced. Did you take any other classes besides the CNA? I took my CNA class in high school where we also took EKG and Phlebotomy. OH, BTW, my EMT teacher gave us a useful peice of advice, he told us most of what we learned in nursing to forget it. He did point out though, that he wasnt saying nursing was wrong, but a hospital setting and a feild setting are very diffrent. The proved to be very true as we went through the class.
 
Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you are headed in the right direction. I just passed the NREMT and I am trying to get on with the largest level one trauma in Ga. I as well are terrified of driving that ambulance! They offer a driving class just for that, as well I am worried about reading the map, I can do go to X light turn RIGHT.....Not go northbound....blah, blah, blah.....

I am sure we will make it through, hang in there and enjoy the ride....literally!:P

Well, I took the Pharm tech national exam. Passed, but the job was boring. So, I continued to be a CNA at a nursing home even though I could have been making an extra dollar or more with much easier duties. haha.
I'm still at that nursing home and I just recently applied to a hospital right by my house that will instruct me in EKG and Phlebotomy. I'm excited about that. Just waiting for the call back!
I'm looking for two things. Fast paced and rewarding. Nursing fits both but I think I just need a change in setting. As your instructor stated, hospital and field settings are very different. =)
 
Welcome!! the driving part will get better with time, Driving is only one part of the job. :) :) :)
