Ok I have wondered how things are in other areas:

How many calls does your service average a year and how many do you average a shift.

Me 30000 24 hour shift 16-18 80% 911

Yearly calls: 25,000
Shift: 10-12 hours (ALS:10, BLS:12)
Avg: 6 runs per shift
It is a mix of 911/granny stackers

Varies.. We work 24 and run approximately 12-16 per 24, however; about 1/4 are critical care transports, the remainder are 911 calls. As well, about 50 % are in rural areas as the others are mixed in metro area.

Even though our area is lower population, I have to state that we use ALS skills quite a bit. Our medics intubate at least twice to three times a month (working 10 days a month) and that is with full medic trucks. So in ratio of response area of only 70K, we have some unhealthy folks to respond to.

I don't have data available for my private transport service, but my volunteer service ran 930 calls last year, of which I ran 181, plus a few dozen more calls with other stations.
