Hello Ya'll, I am new to this forum and just wanted to say Hi. I am new to EMS(CPR and First Responder certified and In the middle of EMT traiing) and hope to spend the rest of my life in EMS helping people. I am 44 and a devoted husband and father. I am currently searching for work in EMS on the entry level and not having much luck. I do have excellent driving and transportation skills as well as great people skills and many other great work and life experiences; but dont have the EMS experience or education yet. Any ideas for me? Have a nice day! Sunny and 55 here in Litchfield Minnesota! My favorite time of the year! Marty

Welcome. Do you have EVOC training yet? As a first responder, you may be hard pressed to find a job without EVOC as FR are not generally permitted alone with patients. They can do patient transports and drive while the EMT is in back and assist with anything that may arise. Regardless of driving skill, without EVOC certification, it's unlikely you will find a job. But the good news is that it is a short class and can be done in a weekend. Good luck.

welcome to the forums good luck with your job search

KEep in mind that's not true everywhere. I'd never had a formal EVOC class until I moved to CO. And it wasn't required to be hired, just part of our orientation

One set of courses I'd reccomend are the FEMA NIMS courses. 100, 200, and 700. Also look into dispatching as a job to start with too

Welcome to the forums! Good luck finding an entry level EMS position, it's tough sometimes

Agree with JT. In a lot of places EVOC is taught by your agency after being hired, or during your EMS classes, rather than as a separate class that you have to take on your own.
