Has anyone had to find their own internship for a distance paramedic program?
Any advice?

Yes I have. Both my hospital rotations and my EMS rotations.

Two tips.

#1 Have some sort of connection to the facility. Don't just ask to go to a random place because odds are they won't feel bad about denying you. The level II center I choose I had volunteered at before and in general had a few family members that worked on other floors in the hospital. I've also lived in the area my entire life which definitely made me easier to say yes too instead of some stranger getting involved. My EMS ride along agency had multiple medics that my teacher knew/worked with/taught which let me slip through the grapevine about possibility getting into that service.

#2 Begin set up for hours early. It took about 8 months to clear my hospital for me to do rotations there. It took forever. Start early and be consistent with communication but not demanding/difficult. Work with them, and we'll work with you.
