Hi, everyone. I wanted to let you know about my final exam for medic school. I got the 88% on written, aced practical stations (all 6), and got a 78% on those poorly copied ecg strips. I needed an 80% on that. Checked my grade this am and got a D in the program because of those strips. So I am no longer a Paramedic student. I think right now I am just numb. I can't even cry about it anymore. I quit a good, steady job in ER and took out huge loans to live on for this program, not to mention the $200.00 worth of uniforms for clinicals and $700.00 worth of books that I can't use now. I can't even begin to state how much of a failure I feel like. I have decided to apply to three other programs for next year, but they are all fairly far away, and go back to volunteering at my FD and be the best EMT I can while I wait for september for another chance, at another school. Thank you all for support, especially you, Airway Goddess-you always seem to pick me up when I need it the most. I'll be in touch.

Anytime gal!! It is going to be alright....:) Dam poop-poop xerox ekg strips<_< <_< <_<

I don't know if this will help ya feel better or not, but I happen to know THREE decent paramedics that FAILED at least twice before they passed. It's a HARD test so don't let it get you down too much. 78 pecent is really, really, really close. It's gotta be only one question off. Try it again.

Sometimes it is the difficulties and setbacks that make us stronger. Hang in there.
Don't burn your books!!!! If it is still what you want, you can make it happen.:)

Keep your Chin up you can try again.

So with a D you can't take the State Exam?

I am a firm believer that if one wants something bad enough, they will stop at nothing to get it. I can tell by your screen name that you have goals. Don't let anything stop you from reaching that goal. It's like I always say... "it's not about how fast you get to the top, but it is what you learn on the way!" I know it is disapointing, but just think of how much stronger you will be the next time you go through it. Another one of my favorite sayings is "it is in our weakness we become stronger". It's like lifting weights. When you first start lifting, you get sore and you feel like you are going no where. If you can get past the soreness, you can and will reach your goals if you stick with it. You, my friend will be a stronger medic than most, because you want it so bad, and will pt forth the extra effort to get it.

So don't give up. Just chalk it up to one of life's hurtles you have to go through to get what you want. I am a black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do. I look at every obsticle in life as comparison to breaking boards. You can't break boards by looking at the boards, you must focus through the boards. My first Black belt test I went all the way through a 4 hour physical driven test. I had to do everything I've ever learned continuiously without setting down. No water break, no nothing. When you changed into sparring gear, you couldn't set, you had to change it while you were standing. When it came time to break my boards at the end, I had 3 one inch boards to break with a side kick, 3 to break with a round house, and 2 to break with either a punch or a knife hand (chop). I got through all the breaks up to the punch. When I did my punch, I messed up my hand. I switched to knife hand, and didn't break because of the pain. I failed. I had to wait another 6 months before I could retest for that one little break. Let me tell you. In my weakness of that hand board break, I worked at it and worked at it, and that became my strongest skill. I got my black belt with the first try at breaking those boards the next time. After that, I went around to tourniments and won awards for breaking with my hand. I started adding more boards to the technique. I said all that to say this...you focus through this class. Don't give up. Take this time to perfect your skills and make your weakness your stringth!! You will go far!!!

Good luck! You better not quit! This does not make you a bad provider, yet it will make you a much better provider because you are hungrey for it!!!

Just Remember there are not many of us who have not failed at sometime or another during their course to become Paramedics. And keep smiling. It makes 'em wonder what you are thinking. :)

I'm a firm believer in that anything worthwhile in life takes considerable work and sacrifice. I have story after story of the rejections I've received and the absurd stuff I did to overcome the seemingly pointless obstacles. I'm confident you can do the same.

Keep you chin up, and remember that this will truly make you a stronger person.

You just go on girl !!^_^ :) ^_^

Keep your chin up and keep moving on. You have already learned alot, so the next time around it should be easier for you. Think of this as a practice round.
You will make it... all of us here know you will. I have failed at many things... but I take them as life lessons and move on and keep going.

God Bless you...

So sorry to hear this. Keep your chin up though. If this is truly something that you want to do, you will find a way to accomplish it. You aren't the first to fail medic class, and I guarentee you won't be the last one either. It has nothing to do with the type of medic you will become, down the road.

One of the best medics I work with was kicked out of medic class once and had to take the medic test for his cert 3 times. He still does all he can to continue to educate himself and is truly very knowledgable about what he does.

Just to clarify - did you fail your course's test, or did you fail the State/NR test?

The course might, or might not, let you re-test. However, if you have been an average or above average student, it would be a shame to have blown static cardiology / rythym interretation, and not be able to go back.

The NR... I think you get 2 tries, then you must sit through a review class before trying again.

Anyway... look into it - I would hope you can study some and re-test. It ain't over until the fat lady sings... ;)

If it helps... I didn't make it thorugh medic school. Now I'm looking at nursing school (R/r 911 - I heard it is easier than medic school;)). Although, 'm kind of uncertian about my direction at this point, and really want to see where PA is going, because I'm now toying with the idea of becoming a PA instead.... I don't know, though.... anyway.... good luck.
