Okay. :D

I have alot of questions.

.

I'm rather eager to find answers to at least most if not all of them, if I can't find answer to any question. It would be nice if I could be directed to a place where I can get them.

My name is Stephon, I recently became an EMT in December 2013 at St. Johns University. Since then I have been getting affairs in order (getting a driver's license, trying get more fit, refreshing my self with my EMT studies and whatnot).

But I'm having a problem.....or should I say problems. I'm sure for every EMT (especially one living in NY) it is to work for the FDNY.

But, I have no idea....or at least little understanding of how being employed by the FDNY as an EMT works.

I hear there is a test but everywhere I look I have no description of what it is, how it works, if I can study for the damn thing.

It is frustrating.

In addition to that there are some other things I wonder about. Here are all my questions to keep things organized.

What are all the forms of EMT that I can work for ?

What should I expect when I get a job ?

How can I study for the NY FDNY EMT test ?

Can I study for the NY FDNY EMT test ?

What do I study for the NY FDNY EMT test ?

Do you have to take the FDNY test in order to be hired by the FDNY ?

How long does it take before you are hired by the FDNY or you start working under the FDNY name ?

Do I need to go up to Paramedic in order to make good money in the FDNY ?

Can I make good money as an EMT in the FDNY ?

Was and is there a way to skip the 3 year certification process ?

How do you get a high score on the FDNY EMT test ?

If you are to get a high score on the FDNY, what is the shortest wait time possible ?

What is the difference between the work-load difference not in workload but in variety between private and FDNY and municipal ?

Another question ? What part does the EMS academy play into being hired or not being hired ?

Or at all. ?

I can't decipher your last three posts. There are no pictures to impart emotion.

Hah. But, I'd really appreciate some help. I want to make sure I'm doing this right. I want to do this for a very long time as I'm sure you can relate. You're an EMT-Paramedic.

There's a giant thread on here called "FDNY EMS Candidates"
I imagine that the answers to all your questions are buried inside there. I'd personally recommend reading it through from the beginning to be sure. I haven't read it myself so I can't help you on more specifics, but that's mostly because I'm a little more interested in LACoFD than I am FDNY lol

I wasn't sure where to post. So I decided to post here.

probably the best way to get through that massive thread is:

google.com

search bar:

"type your question here" (no quotes) site:emtlife.com

ex: paramedic license site:emtlife.com

and threads with that information will pop up. try not to include short phrases like "but, will," ect because a crap ton of useless threads will pop up

hope that makes sense, and good luck

Thank you. I find it hard to believe that no has more info.

I've only known of one regular poster here that worked for FDNY EMS, and he hasn't posted in probably two years. I think 46young worked there a while back, too. You may try and shoot him a PM

People do have information, there's already an extensive thread about it and many don't want to type out something they've already typed ad nauseam.

I'll give you a hand.
http://www.emtlife.com/search.php?searchid=4043844
that's all the threads with "FDNY" in the title.

And this is the one that was referenced:

http://www.emtlife.com/showthread.php?t=36806&highlight=FDNY

Also...is English your first language? Not trying to be rude, just wondering because of the random missing words from sentences.

Yeah.......I need to spell check, but for some reason. I feel like I have to rush in order to get it out. (whatever, I'm writing).

Oh and thank you for the references. I completely understand that "ad nauseam" bit.

I'll give you a hand.

Take your time. Typing in complete, thought out sentences goes a long way in getting people to write you back. And it shows a bit of professionalism as well.
FDNY testing/ jobs is a fairly popular topic here and a search will most likely provide the answers you are looking for. That being said if you do come across anything new post it for others to see.
Good luck.
