Hey guys I have a question for you all. In MN what is the difference between an EMT with a variance and an AEMT. Is there anything more an aemt can do?

Have looked on states ems site with really no luck

In MN an EMT can do

Start IVs
Start IOs
Lidocaine for IO start
Give non-medicated fluids
ASA
NTG
Epi-pens
Oral Benadryl
Oral glucose
Glucagon
CPAP
Nebs
Kings size 2-5
Obtain 12 leads

So you can start an IV, but can only give po benadryl and epi via epipen?

Call me crazy, but IM injections are pretty basic to the point where they're almost BLS. With that scope you should definitely be allowed to give meds IM.

we are very close to an Iowa Paramedic. if we ever get D-50 and trained to read the 12 lead. that'd be right up there. (the lower level of IA paramedic)
