I just received my EMT B one year ago, and I am going to school soon to become a RN. I became a firefighter and fought fire on a pretty good volunteer force for one year, and then did a season of firefighting out west. I have my firefighter 1/2 certs, tech rescue cert, swift water rescue cert, hazmat ops, etc

I came back, and I was just too darn burned out. Everything just got to be a chore for me so I'm stopped for a bit. I've been slightly depressed now, and I've picked up a number of hobbies such as Olympic lifting/power lifting and martial arts. I've also have recently been accepted as a doorman.

People will now be looking up to me as an EMT as a doorman position, and I can't really lose my skills, and I might need to gain some new ones. I will be presented with a variety of different situations because I'm not working at just a bar -- I will be working at a concert venue. I will see mosh pits, large numbers of people, fights, drinking, and so on.

Would anyone have any experience with staff EMS procedures and/or working at a bar? Since their have been many nightclub fires, riots and other hibbity jibbity I'd love to hear some experience and ways to resolve potential problems.

Also, from a liability point of view, I'm assuming that anyone who has imbibed to the point where they can't walk too well and throwing up on the bathroom toilet should get emergency care. Is this assumption correct? I'm assuming if something actually is wrong or if there is another preexisting problem then we will be liable.

I'm not trying to be the newb EMT. I've seen a lot of them as wildland firefighters, and I find them annoying. However, I do want to know my stuff because I put down on my resume that I was an EMT so they're expecting me to do this job right. Thanks.

If you have no medical control, you have no responsibility past basic lay responder first aid. That is, maybe CPR and call 911.

And no, not every puking drunk needs medical attention.

You were 'burned out' after a year? Im betting some details are being left out.

Hey man, the reason I quit isn't your concern. You don't know why I'm burned out. I never said it was from running calls or from wildland fire. It's none of your business to know..

Since I've obviously have my answer. Lock this thread and ban me.
