One quick question, how can you tell the difference between an absence seizure and an ATYPICAL absence seizure.

Atypical meaning this person is not known to have them (as in new onset) or different from what the person normally has? A seizure can be a slight jerk, a stare, even a giggle..there are so many. I'm guessing you to mean something different from the norm.

It is very difficult to diagnose even with an EEG. Typically the patient will have a Hx of a seizure disorder.
