Day Shift vs. Night Shift

I did set my clinicals up too! We have to do 3 - 12 hour shifts , 2 on a truck and 1 ED. My Truck ones will be days but my ED was in night and I work full time for the hospital already and I know how slow our ED at this hospital is at night since all the good stuff gets sent to our main ED! I see alot of engery drinks in my furture for that shift!

Well, I got signed up! :) I'm excited! Thanks guys! All of you rock.

I work 48 hour shifts.
If you could find something like that, you could experience both sides.

COmedic- I was going to see if I could do a ride along after my ED clinical, but I have heard horrific things about that company/program. I'm not sure what to do there, but right now I'm just going to concentrate on getting this class down- I mean 5 chapters in 2 days, essay questions after each chapter AND a quiz after each chapter, then a quiz? I think I'm at my limit at the moment. ;) I know this is true for everyone.

I think if you are looking for the experience then you should work during the day, where the call volume (at least in this area) is significantly higher. With that said, night shift is a different world. Things to consider with night shift, are that you will generally get the sicker and more critical patients. Most of the people that just want a taxi ride, will do it early in the day/evening. We also have fewer crews and few ALS units. The hospital staff is lighter and certain parts of the ED close. Night shift is just different.
