Hello all, I need some advice. I just re-passed NREMT and am now looking to get certified by CA State EMS. I know that some people have posted criminal background stuff on here, but mine might be a bit different. I was arrested in July 2007 for assault w/a caustic chemical and burglary (translation, I got drunk and got one of those outside fire extinguishers and sprayed someone with it). The difference is I was never convicted, the courts dismissed it by never filing on the charges that the police made in the case, so when the time to file lapsed, the case was subsequently dismissed.
I have done an independent live scan of my background and the arrest does come up in it. My question is will this history affect my eligibility for state certification and make me ineligible? From what I have seen the charges I was arrested for do not automatically make me ineligible, and since I was never convicted in the first place I wouldn't think it would automatically disqualify me.
The other part is I am ultimately trying to become a surgical nurse, so I went thru a CNA/HHA program as well and was able to be certified as a CNA/HHA through the CA Department of Public Health even after this happened. Will this have any bearing in figuring out if I am eligible to work as an EMT? Are the criminal background requirements the same or similar for each?
Any info would be most helpful.
