Brooklyn girl dies from asthma attack

Where did WHO go wrong? The man in uniform or the man who did CPR on the girl?
 
Here we go again. Cops don't know why people are breaking traffic laws when they stop them. They can not let people to drive recklessly. They should have waited for the ambulance.
 
Story even states the mom called 911, "couldn't wait"and hit a parked car.

Mom was in the wrong, period.
 
One of many aspects

A cop's focus is on crime, criminals, laws, infractions, etc. You can't always expect a uniformed whatever to immediately step out of the box they are trained in and all of a sudden step in to the role of a medical evaluator.

It is easy to feel like you've lost control of a scene. Believe me, this was Panic City and there was plenty of room for ALL the people involved to make a series of poor decisions that interacted to seal the fate of the little girl.
 
Question. Since this was apparently an asthma attack, is it likely that at this point the child probably needed a surgical airway in addition to resuscitation? If she had a complete obstruction, it doesn't look like this would have ended well either way, regardless of whether she had waited or the cop let her go. I think the cop could have been a little more compassionate here, but it doesn't sound like he was being outright evil either.

Probably not.
 
A surgical airway is designed to create an airway inferior to a block in the upper airway allowing ventilation. Asthma causes swelling in the lower airway, trapping air and preventing both ventilation and oxygenation.

The dad claims he knows most of the cops in the area because he is a tow truck driver, and that the mom often rides with him, and they absolutely know what a NYPD officer looks like. However, they can't describe specifics about the uniform (badge? gun belt?) or pick out the person from a photo array of all the officers at that precinct.
 
Irrespective of the actions of any law enforcment/other officer, the family bear the brunt of the responsibility for the death of their child.
 
For those of you who dont know NYC well, the problem with this is it could have been anyone in uniform and its going to get tied to NYPD. NYC has everything from volly cops to traffic cops, parking enforcement officers, code enforcement, garbage code enforcement and about 100 other kinds of uniformed people and the major problem is for the most part, all of the vehicles are marked NYPD cars with a small rocker on the back pertaining to what department so figuring out if it was an actual cop, or a rent-a-cop will be the hard part. Regardless It still sucks.

They brought that up in the articles, that officials are trying to find out exactly what type of cop the person was. In the mean time though the family is screaming it was a full NYPD patrol officer.
 
Shoulda waited, and I don't fully place 'blame' on the cop.. he's a cop, not trained in medical eval like another poster said, and would have to let his guard down to eval/work the girl. He doesn't know these people, it doesn't seem like a safe situation for him.
 
I can see this is a very sad story, but this story doesnt make me feel bad for the family...Reason why? Its because, the family is now gonna use this sob story to try and get a rediculous settlement from NYC, NYPD, and possibly the hospital. When infact if the mother just remained at the park and waited for EMS to show the daughter would of probably had a better chance than she did with her mother driving.

Oh you know they will... As sad as it is, you know there is hundreds of lawyers lining up outside her door with dollar signs in their eyes.

very strange and oddly enough in the same area of Brooklyn as the previous "do nothing" incident by 2 FDNY dispatchers.

Really disagree here. This was the coming together of circumstances that produced a tragedy to ALL involved.
