Austin-Travis County EMS is a premier third service public safety department that provides Emergency Medical Service to over 1 million residents spread out over 1100 sq. miles. We are a National Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch Center of Excellence using the Medical Priority Dispatch system (an international program used in multiple countries and translated into 17 different languages) to deliver exceptional lifesaving prehospital care . In fact, two of our employees were awarded the International Dispatcher of the Year designation.
As a Medic-1 Communications employee, you will be responsible for locating, triaging and providing medical self-help to our customers in a fast paced, high call volume 911 environment. We effectively manage over 125,000 medical and rescue requests per year.
Your duties will not be limited to the average medical call. Austin is host to the X-Games, F1 racing events, South by Southwest music and film festival, hundreds of marathons, the Race for the Cure, and a myriad of other special events. We are the intake point for these events, helicopter rescue requests and Region 7 Emergency Medical Task Force requests. There is always something new and exciting happening here.
