AEMT to Paramedic advice

I need some advice concerning what I should do once I am done with my AEMT program. I know I want to continue on to Paramedic, my question is should I get some experience in the field first, or should I go straight into the Paramedic program? I spoke with my instructor about this and he said that I should consider going straight into the Paramedic program. His reasoning was if I go into the field to get experience 1st, then I will probably develop some bad habits which will cause me to struggle in the Paramedic course because I will need to relearn everything by the book. He sees the problems some of the paramedic students have 1st hand becuase he is 1 of the adjunct instructors for the Paramedic class. 1 of our adjunct instructors told me I should get experience 1st. So I just wanted to see what you guys thought.
