    Questions about Boots

Check what the company/organization recommends. Some require steel toe. Otherwise, go for comfort/functionality. If you like what you have, stick with it.

What is the easiest method to learning BP?

If you just started class then I wouldn't worry so much about this right now, you're instructor will go over it, you will practice on your friends until they are sick of you and you will become proficient at it until you're first priority call in the back of an old ambulance down a bumpy road...

    EMS and meal "breaks"

My BGL dropped when I was observing in an ED for my basic class. Thankfully, I knew what was happening & the tech I was shadowing took care of me. We don't get meal breaks, bathroom breaks, etc. I got to know the guy that runs the 7-Eleven fairly well when I first started.

Every time I move my head my neck makes that great painful grating noise. I shouldn't have settled that MVA case so quickly. I'm told I will be in some level of pain for the rest of my life. Fantastic.

    Swine Flu vax....

There are already facilities/organization stating they will be requiring employees to get the vaccine. Supposedly, ff people refuse, they will be fired. So far, I haven't heard that in CT. I'm not decided on getting either. I never have gotten a flu shot, and ***searching frantically for...

    EMS Tattoos

I have 2 now, both on my lower back & plan on getting more. They both represent something that means a lot to me and a part of my life that I always want to remember. All of mine can/will be hidden with a t-shirt. For those of you who don't like them, don't look at them, don't ask me about...

Just another regular dialysis patient....so it was supposed to be.

Where was this medic when they were instructing you to move the pt to the other BLS ambulance? In your original post it sounded like the medic was on scene, which completely changes the situation. I run on a BLS ambulance and if a call is ALS we either intercept en route or meet ALS on...

    What does your department do?

Services that don't take proper documentation seriously are setting themselves up for huge lawsuits. As are the EMTs. But that doesn't mean that all vollys can't write a pcr.

    when is it necessary to...

How I love the debates about gloves & PPE. :P I generally put my gloves on as I am walking up to the pt. That being said, do I wear them every time? No. Do I sometimes take them off after I get into the ambulace, only to take a bp or provide some care that doesn't require my touching body...

    What does your department do?

Wow. Subpar charting and enforcing standards has nothing to do with volly vs paid. I know many paid EMTs that can't write a pcr to save their lives, many due to learning disabilities. It doesn't have to do with their pt care, but they can't write a pcr worth anything. If you can't write a...

What kind of Hand Sanatizer do you use?

I had a bunch of those but the clips kept breaking so I would lose them. But they were free, so I can't complain.

That is our moto as well; except its wait a minute. Ahh New England. Or, we also have 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction.

You can have it. By the time it is dry enough to mow the lawn its more like bailing a field. I tried today and was caught in a torrential downpour. At least it cooled me off a bit. Last month we had rain almost every single day for the entire month. It got very old very quick.

THe REal Reason you became an EMT-B

I grew up in the fire/ems service and stuck with it. Plus, I spent a lot of time in ambulances and hospitals when I was a kid, so I guess I never left. I'd say it's because I like people, but I really can't tolerate most civilians.

I need advice on a class schedule

Finish up your basic class, either in your current one, or find a different one where you feel the instructors are more focused on the education. Don't stop there. Take some A&P classes, get into the education cycles at the local hospitals & get out in the field. I have a very firm belief that...

Oh, and its pouring in CT, again. Surprise surprise. With off/on rain in the forcast for the next 10 days. Super. There is a tornado watch where I live. One may have already touched down.

My sister loved this show, but I was never allowed to speak during it. She's not medically inclined. *sigh* I'm a huge fan of a medical shows. Nurse Jackie is turning into a new fav. but those discovery shows are pretty good too.
