Why I did NOT become an EMT...

WOW. Do you make that level of false assumptions out on a call? It's like I'm hording my money in a big ol pile. haha what's wrong with you? Money pays for quality of life. You can try and argue that quality of life is great on $20,000/year salary (That's $12/hour full time) in America. But...

Why I did NOT become an EMT...

Hello Community! I became a user some (long) time ago when I was attending my EMT classes. I never became an EMT professionally. Where I live in Colorado, the ambulance service here is AMR. They pay roughly $12/hour for the area. I got a job as a private gardener for $18.50/hour with...

    Self protection question

Oh that's too easy! For just a quarter? Come one, gotta make it worth a little more for me to go produce material. Though my original question was not really pertaining to firearms, and I know that EMS very often wear vests and carry ASP's where I'm from in LA/OC. Just more curious about day...

    Self protection question

While what you say is a useful tactic, there are numerous training with video of lifeguards being taken down by struggling persons. As well as quite a few documented lifeguard deaths resulting from such situations. Rendering a person unconscious is a very viable alternative, particularly if they...

    Self protection question

Cops wear vest 100% of the time without issue. Was just curious to see what people on here are doing. Working in south LA vs a "normal" town of course is different. You got a shoot out in Toys R Us today with 2 people dead. Toys R Us... who packs heat to go toy shopping? Figure you can expand...

    Self protection question

Might have been asked before but I couldn't find anything specific. How many of you carry protection (ASP, Baton, etc) and/or wear protection (BP Vests, etc)? Would be location specific for sure, but non the less for those in higher crime areas.

    Pets in a burning home...

Ya, for the OP Scenario.. fully engulfed structure fire, just foolish to enter. Perhaps so, but I am no person to judge another. I'll leave that to someone else, lest I be wrong....

    EMS is a stepping stone

The career is life for me. Most people can pretty much do whatever they want within reason if they are reading this. It's just more a matter of what do you want to do? Job's are not the end goal for myself, it's how I weant about my day, no matter what the day.

    Pets in a burning home...

The fluffy thing in the picture OP posted? No way. My dogs could make it out on their own better then most humans I'm sure given an open door way. No animal holds a value above a human IMO.

    EMS is a stepping stone

Ah just to throw another quick 2 cents in - I've met plenty.. way more then should have.. RN's and even Doctors (lets not go there) who just don't give a crap, horrible service, education, etc... enough so that I would not want to be a nurse, could have been the area though. Where I'm from...

    7 day challenge

Excellent stuff, I try and stick with the SEAL pushup routine - 10 pushups every 30 seconds for 15 minutes (if you make it to 15 minutes, you're a bada$$!). Additionally I lift and run.

    EMS is a stepping stone

I plan on it as a career myself, so there are people out there. Not EMT, but paramedic of some kind eventually. I have very little interest in fighting fires, I loved the variety and challenge as a lifeguard and expect an even wider variety of patients as an EMT. In every profession you will...

    Hello from CO Springs!

Thanks! I really enjoyed lifeguarding. Only bummer is they are charging me some pretty absurd amounts for the classes as 'out of state'.

    Hello from CO Springs!

Been reading the forum here for a little bit, thought I'd introduce myself. I'm starting the EMT-B in January. Worked as a lifeguard a few years ago in California. Looking forward to the dry side of EMS. Eventual goal would be a paramedic. Peace!
