    It Happened: Continuing Education Audit

My state leans heavily on NREMT for re-certs. If NREMT re-certifies you, then the state renews your license. So all CE gets entered into NREMT's site/dashboard, and once the Training Officer approves it, the re-cert and license renewal wheels start to move. As an EMT with a volunteer FD...

should a 50 year old go to EMT school?

Ageism is certainly a real thing....I can speak from experience on it, but only in regards to jobs outside of EMS. That said, I'm currently in an environment where the labor-supply is low, and the demand for EMS workers is high -- so even a "geezer" like me (significantly older than yourself)...

My Experience Getting Certified in Massachusetts

I'm definitely envious. My state is....let's just go with, "not Massachusetts". :(

Post the # your test stopped at, and if you Passed/Failed

Took the EMT NREMT on Saturday -- stopped at 70 (or maybe 71). Found out today that I passed!

Which is better taking EMT training at a actual ambulance facility or taking a EMT course in college?

I would ask around -- current EMTs -- and find out where they went and how they felt about the program, especially since they are now putting their knowledge to use. Around here there are not many options....and most folks have a very strong opinion based on their experience and the experiences...

    Palpating a BP

I ran across a situation on a recent MVA scene, and after a brief and professional exchange on the event with the EMS provider, I came away confused and a bit concerned. The scene was a 1-vehicle MVA wherein the vehicle left the road and went nose-down into a deep ditch. There were two...

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

Been a while for an update....I'm the guy who had his 1st Moderna end of December 2020, 2nd Moderna end of January, and breakthrough Covid (verified by testing) at the end of July. My postings are in this Megathread. Sometime ago (I'd estimate 3 or 4 weeks ago) I developed parosmia. I did...

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

I'm one of the vaccinated who ended up getting COVID. You'll find my vaccination postings earlier in this thread -- 1st Moderna shot was late December and 2nd was late January. I live in a state with a low vaccination rate, and my county has one of the lowest vaccination rates (34%). It's a...

    Everyone is a paramedic.

I don't have any real standing to weigh-in on this -- so of course I will anyway. I'm an EMR-trained person who also fights the occasional structure fire and does some MVA work (i.e., extrication and/or directing traffic). I personally like the term "medic" as an umbrella term, although I...

    AED Question

My first time posting a question, and I feel the need to start with 2 things: I'm MFR/EMR, not an EMT; and I apologize in advance if this has been addressed somewhere else on the site....feel free to just paste the link and I'll read that thread. As a volunteer fireman who tries to go on every...

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

I followed your Captain's path with my second shot. You had the reaction I was hoping for, but my chills/fever thing wasn't horrible, and so far my station's reactions seem to run the same range as your station's: "felt a little off", "really enjoyed my sleep", "had a naggy headache but killed...

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

My experience closely mirrors yours, with the exception of the chest soreness. My 1st Moderna shot on Dec 28th and 2nd shot on Jan 25.

    COVID VACCINE - The Megathread

I had the first shot (Moderna) on 12/28 -- second shot is scheduled for 1/25. First shot was just 2 days of arm pain....discomfort really, didn't stop me from using the arm.

    What drives you?

Thank you for your comments, and you are correct, I do have a masters degree (M.S. in Computer Science). I like your suggestion of taking the EMT class to deepen my knowledge in the emergency medical field. I'm embarrassed to admit that I sort of dismissed EMT training out of hand because I...

    What drives you?

I feel funny answering this, I am but a lowly MFR as a Volunteer Firefighter. I generally tell people that quote from a Charles Bukowski book, "I don't hate people, I just feel better when they aren't around". I'm 55 years old, I've made a very nice living as a programmer, a data scientist...

    Transporting a Cardiac Arrest?

My comment is more towards the OP's original question, so perhaps my comment is out of date. The TLDR summary is: a patient with no discernible heart activity must be brought to a level of at least a pulse on scene before being transported. For those who like to read, here's the context of...
