Pfft, doctors need neither grammar nor legible hand-writing, you're at least on par! You're starting strong. Welcome!

What do you look for in a partner?

I'm going to take a second to be thankful that: A) I have a consistent partner And especially B) That he's hilarious and great to work with Not quite the point of the thread, but 100% it makes busy days better, since he knows what he's doing, and it makes slow days awesome because we're in...

    not assertive enough? advice please

I think assertiveness, or at least healthy assertiveness, is a fine balance between natural confidence, experience and the understanding of need. You turn it on and off. If I think you really need to listen to me, and your health is in peril, then I'll assert. If you're getting too far...

You might work for a private if.....

Heh, no. That happened for an Ontario private, non-emerg transfer company. I work there and seasonally in Alberta.

What do you look for in a partner?

Competent across the board (especially with lifting). Likes to drive, sarcastic/wicked sense of humor, good patient care attitude. Knows how to balance conversation and quiet time. Appreciation of movie/tv show quotes. Ideally, within a few inches of my height; I'm 6'2, working with people...

    Why EMS?

It's not an office job, for one. You get to make a difference now and again, you get cool toys and (at least up here!) it pays at least as well as the computer nonsense I'd otherwise be doing. I do not at all mind how much respect I catch once people learn what I do, either. :)

You might work for a private if.....

Small one, but last night at 2151, I got this call: "Umm, I know you start at 0800, but we've got a patient that needs to go from X to Y (62km trip), then to an appointment across the street and then back... And we don't have a crew to do it. Can you guys start at 0500 instead?" We don't get...

    The Official EMTLIFE Introduction Thread

I should amend my previous post, because it does a disservice to my teacher. I did my EMR in Ontario and it was a very worthwhile experience. I learned a ton, and my instructor and his assistant were both awesome. I continue to see my instructor, actually. It was very valuable to me in...

Hmm, one of the transfer attendants I work with used to work out that way. It's privatized out there, right?

    The Official EMTLIFE Introduction Thread

:) Which province are you in? I'm trying to get some help to do my PCP program here in Ontario, but if I can't, I've got my eyes set on doing my EMR in Alberta. I'm excited either way, needless to say. I was kind of bummed at having to redo my EMR until I realized that it's twice as...

    The Official EMTLIFE Introduction Thread

Hey all, I'm Tyler. I'm just beginning the process of learning how to be a medic, and I've some experience as a first responder from unpleasant security jobs and my training as an Ontario EMR (pro-tip for other Ontario residents: do not waste your time; if you want an EMR, do it out of...

    CPR when its not needed

*waves, first-posting* I teach CPR regularly up here in Canada and apparently I'm much meaner than some of you, heh. I make my students do way, way more than 2-5 minutes of CPR... :D
