Taking the i/99 course in the Fall. Any tips on things I can start going over to prep

I'm currently a basic at 19 years old. I've been certified since January, and feel I've become pretty decent with my BLS skills. I volunteer for a fire department, and my chief wants to put me through the course, which I'm super excited about! All the paid guys are mostly i/85's so they will...

I haven't had a really nasty call yet, just a mild GI bleed. I always thought rubbing a little deoderant under your nose would be good though..

Hey guys, I'm an EMT-B and am looking to start paramedic school in next couple of years. I'm taking the advanced training in the fall. I was wondering if you guys had any ideas of things that I could start doing now to prepare myself for medic school? I recently started writing down all the...

Do you use an AED on a choking victim in cardiac arrest?

Someone goes into cardiac arrest from choking. Abdominal thrusts were performed but failed. You start CPR. Would you apply an AED in this situation? Or would you wait until the airway is clear? Because even if you do get the heart beating again it's not like you can get them breathing. I'm...

What's the dumbest thing you've said to a patient?

I was taking a SAMPLE history the other day in the back of the bus, and asked the patient if they had allergies. They said, "Nope, no allergies.. I am diabetic though." I then said, "Oh so are you on albuterol?" "What?" "Nevermind." I'm pretty new so I expect this will happen...

I'm a pretty new EMT. Advice on real patient assessments?

Hi all, I'm a fairly new EMT and for last 1.5 months or so I've been volunteering with a station. The station only has two paid guys per shift (It's small, 2-3 calls a day). They're a little short handed, so they don't mind me coming in a couple days a week to spend a day at the station...

    OPQRST questions

If you look on your skill sheets, taking a sample history and opqrst is done during transport. Not in the field - even though everyone does it anyways.

Phlebotomy? A good class to take before my advanced EMT?

Thanks for all the responses you guys. My end goal is to be a Paramedic. Looking at taking an EMT Advanced course in the fall, and thought a phlebotomy course may be good practice for it.

Phlebotomy? A good class to take before my advanced EMT?

The title pretty much says it all! I'm looking at maybe taking a phlebotomy technician course this summer before I take my advanced EMT course. Do you guys think it would be a good idea to take it so I can go into my advanced class with a little knowledge before hand? Or would it be a waste...
