    EMT/Medic Gamers

I am big time old school I do not own any modern gaming units. I have the Atari 2600, Colecovision and the orginal Nintendo. Haven't played them in a while. Used to be a big gamer when I was young. Still enjoy it when I have the chance.

What Music do you listen to?

I listen from everything from Classical up to the 80's. The only music I won't listen to is RAP. When I am having a real bad night @ the office I will usually play big band [i.e. Tommy Dorsey]. Calms me down.

Finally ! Someone who cares about BLS and EMT's

I have some more to add here. 1) There are EMT's that are good out there. The problem is that there is less and less of them becuase of poor teaching. I had to prove my skills and do extensive ride along time as a volunteer and on a paid service before I was let go on my own in the back of...

Finally ! Someone who cares about BLS and EMT's

BLS procedures: I would fully immoblize pt with a c-collar, cid's, and use a scoop stretcher [they are good for hip fx's] if a scoop stretcher was not available I would use a backboard. I would also make sure the pt is secured properly to avoid movement of the leg[s] to avoid further injury...

Finally ! Someone who cares about BLS and EMT's

The other day I was reading the JEMS article about BLS being an afterthought. I can't agree more with it. I have been in this field for almost 18 years now, and I have seen alot of changes. For one, they way the state that I am from [PA] is teaching EMT's is horrible.. this is no joke, for a...

    DISPATCHERS

Amen to that. I worked on both sides, and I know how it is. I hate it when crews try to "armchair quarterback" the dispatcher. The nice thing is that on my shift I have the same crews on my rotation, so we all work well together. I know if one of my crews is getting pumbled, I try to give them a...

Why private industry has no business in EMS

Well here is some of my insight for what it's worth: In my area where I am from there are 3 private services. A long time ago, the City of Scranton Fire used to run an ambulance service. Dunmore Fire Ran an ambulance. CMC and Mercy Hospital ran hospital based MICU's. There were volunteer...

    DISPATCHERS

Yes I am dispatched too. Been in the field for almost 18 years now, both as a volunteer and working for private services. I sliped into dispatch because I have RA and it's getting harder for me to lift. I do have the itch to get back on the road every now and then. I do enjoy it. I have the same...

What kind of service are you involved with ?

I had this kind of post before, and it was too generic. I hope this is more clearer.

Call volume thus far vs. last year.

I just recently did my stats for the company I volunteer with. We are at 470 now. Our norm for the year is 500. This is going to be one of the busiest years thus far.

    The Official EMTLIFE Introduction Thread

Hello from PA ! My name is Dan, I am 35. From Sturges, PA [outside of Scranton, PA] EMT-MAST. Been doing this since I was 18 years old. My father and uncle got me into this when I was a kid when they volunteered for an ambulance. I currently work for a private ambulance service as a dispatcher...

    4WD or 2WD?

My service that I volunteer with only runs 2WD ambulances. We have aggressive tires and chains if needed to put on. I was running calls during that infamous valentine's day storm that hit the northeast a few years back. I never had a problem getting around. The only 4WD that we run is the QRS...

    Feedback: Open Letter To MMiz

My two bits. It has been a while since I have logged in. I have to say that I did not also like the bashing that was going on. I can understand why some of the threads got locked out, because some of them were going to turn real nasty. I do give credit to the admins for doing a good job. There...

Why is EMS mixed with FD?

EMS needs to stay EMS. Fire Dept's have no business to run EMS. This is all a ploy to jack up response numbers to keep firehouses open, and get fancy toys. I know of a few "fire dept" based ambulances, either paid or volunteer that want to break away because they are tired of the non sense. I am...

What does diversion mean to you?

Well where I come from, the hospitals have different types of diversion: When they are on "critical care", it means that the ICU and Tele floors are full, and more than likely the ER is holding pt's over and don't have any vents or EKG equipment to handle any more CC pt's. All beds full -...
