    NYS Testing and NREMT

The Brady book looks the best (from what I have seen out of the bunch of them) and they are on the 12th Edition at this point. I wanted a little head start so I ordered the one that I thought looked like a great resource and that one sold me. My Volunteer & Paid EMS bunch are very...

    NYS Testing and NREMT

Angel, cool! I have some NREMT software to practice some of the test questions (figuring NYS must be similar in some aspect_. I intend on studying plenty. My classes will be 2 nights a week starting January until testing in June. What text did you use for your class? Besides the...

Are you a visual, auditory, or kinetic learner?

I have learned how I learn over the years through trial and error. I like to read, take notes and I think in the case of EMT (although I have not experienced it yet) hands-on will be good. Repetition for me works great.

    NYS Testing and NREMT

Are there any folks who are certified EMT's in NYS that have taken the EMT testing? If so, what was the testing like and do we have the option of taking the NREMT. I am trying to understand how the NREMT works with NYS. Thanks!

Just wondered how many EMS'ers are Ham Radio operators also?

    Are there communications simulators?

Ham Radio Actually, being involved with Ham Radio (I am and my call is W2NU) is a great way to get a handle on radio comms, annunciation, phonetic alphabet and protocol. I've listened to local scanner activity and sometimes radio communications are either mumbled, too fast or what not. Radio...

NJ EMT Plaque for car windshield????

If the fire is gone and cynicism creeps in and takes up most of your energy - maybe it's time to look into another vocation. I've seen too many RN's wear out their welcome in their career and they either never got the counseling and debriefing they needed to deal with the stressors or they...

    EMT Reality Check

Right on the money All very good, and practical information. I've been reading about some of the ability / agility test requirements for EMT (the lifts and carries) and that might be the real reality check for me (not the book learning and desire) but physical stamina. I was watching...

    EMT Reality Check

Thanks for the advice ... I have to do the "job assessment" part before I do ride-alongs. This is going to be the physical part: lugging equipment, working with a stretcher and whatever else they have in mind. I actually handle my fatigue through a medication called Provigil / Modafinil and...

    EMT Reality Check

Lots to ask .... I have 3 ride-alongs set for next week and I will get the chance to see things in action. I live in a suburb serviced by a lot of different ambulance companies and fire departments, so I am not sure how busy things get. My town is actually pretty small. Will definitely ask...

    EMT Reality Check

Stamina is a big one for me -- I do not have a ton of it. I have bursts but the red zone might come more quickly than I like. I will have an honest talk with the instructor and get her feedback. I will also do a bit of self-examination. I know I could run the radio, and do other things. I...

    EMT Reality Check

Hi Guys, I've longed rubbed shoulders with EMT's, Paramedics, Fire Fighters, Police, etc through my Army vocation, American Legion and other activities (Ham Radio too). I've always wanted to be involved in Emergency Care / services in the realm of volunteer (not paid). My local Ambulance...

    Just starting out ....

PS - I love "shiny things" but will resist the temptation. I am meeting with the instructor this week before class begins in January and getting ready to do orientation with the local Ambulance Corp (3 ride-alongs and a job assessment). Looking forward to it.
