Well that really sucks, I failed at 120 on the home/online NREMT

You’ll lose. You got advice you needed and in EMS the way it works with the test is you either know the material and can apply it or you don’t. NREMT is testing not on how much you can remember, but how do you apply the information into a given situation.

    the 100% directionless thread

Yup and reading all the names of the ones who wrote the protocols it was entertaining to see how much the Air Force dominated the project.

The protocols being pushed by DOD were poorly written and made by docs who didn’t understand what paramedics especially do, are trained in, or how a prehospital response is. I actually know one of the paramedic advisors for the protocols and he raised lots of issues but was struck down in pretty...

    New Army Ambulance

I was curious if they went back to bench seats. Currently we have those crappy Captain chairs that barely give space between the stretcher and the chair for people to put their legs. It gets tight back there with multiple people and someone on the stretcher

So Sacramento DMV has to review my driving history...

Probably shouldn’t tell you that years back when I worked in CA how the DMV lost my paperwork after it went to Sacramento and their solution was to just use my temp card till it was time to renew. The CA DMV is the most inefficient governmental organization I’ve seen and I work for the federal...

Well the head guy did come from the Park Service. I just can’t believe he actually had them do those graphics. 🤦‍♂️ When he visited my post he was talking all about that.

How do EMTs deal with suicidal adolescents?

Any job where you can show you consistently showed up and did the job you were assigned would be just as good.

    I have a few questions

Yeah I wouldn’t get that bag at all. Like the others have said, get trained first. Then get some experience. After you have a little experience you’ll realize that the bag you are looking at is full of stuff you’d never need. In my personal truck I just carry a stop the bleed kit which has a...

    Deaf EMT

I’ve been deaf in my right ear my whole life. I’ve never had to use any special equipment or accommodations. Most I’ve ever had to do is ask a patient to repeat an answer to a question. Some of my coworkers also have hearing issues from their time in the military and don’t have any issues...

At some point it’s always time to leave the field. If you have the ability and seen such an improvement, maybe now is the time for you. Good luck either way.

Didn't call a stroke alert. Ended up being a stroke

I swear that is the reason I sometimes wanted to drag nurses out the door or to a window, point at the building next door, and go yeah we came from right over there.

    Unusual presentation

Ok makes sense. I’ll admit I missed the pulse ox reading so that would definitely have changed what the possible Dx would have been. PE or some other VQ mismatch would make sense

    Unusual presentation

First off you can’t go semi alert and unresponsive. Two different things. Second it sounds like an anxiety attack. Did the patient complain of any numbness or tingling to their extremities?

    Should EMS/Fire be armed?

Sounds like a not so fun experience. Guess he should have taken half a second to see what was going on and maybe think through the process

    Should EMS/Fire be armed?

I hear you there. I’ve been in the back with patients after they have been sprayed and it lingers on the skin and clothes, off gassing or something cause it’s not comfortable but at least it isn’t as bad as when it’s first sprayed.
