    gaining experience as an EMT

Hi I'm a new EMT grad (June this year)in the southern Alberta area and I've been working in the oilfield since graduation. I don't mind it but find it very unnerving that I am the medical person in charge of all these workers with no hands on experience. I've tried to get on with private...

    ACP exam and scenarios

I went to SAIT. Wasn't that the most ridiculous written test we just did ever. I'm freaking out about the medical scenario especially. If you have your computer, any tips would be appreciated. Everything done in the ambulance or vitals and supportive care on scene. If you don't see this...

    ACP exam and scenarios

Good luck to you too-what school did you go to? Hopefully we were all taught what we need to know. I just remember from EMR that their questions are so vague. Oh well we'll have to do our best! It would be nice if there was a National competency that we could all license to so that we would...

    ACP exam and scenarios

Does anyone have any tips or practice exams for Alberta's ACP EMT exam, or practice medical and trauma scenarios. I write this Friday and it's too expensive to fail! Thanks in advance

Training as EMT with tennis elbow

Thanks guys-I figure I'll nurse this elbow and try to make it better and just go for it-in the end I think it's better to go for what I want and go down kicking and screaming. I appreciate your insight.

Training as EMT with tennis elbow

Hi, I'm a 54 year old woman who is a week away from paying my school fees to become an EMT. I really want to do this and I think I would be good at it but in my quest to getting stronger and fitter, I've developed tennis elbow. Can I still work in the field or do I have to give up now. Help!

    curious about levels of training

That sounds like a very ambitious enterprise but really exciting. Hope that all works out and thanks so much for helping to clear up my confusion:)

Does that increase your scope of practice over a Paramedic or is it basically the same as theirs?

    curious about levels of training

So once you have received a B.Sc. (is that 4 year?) and then your Physician's Assistant-what type of work would you do-hospital or ambulance? Does Ontario not offer any of this at a college level? What would this be comparable to in Alberta?

    curious about levels of training

Sorry I didn't see the rest of your post. So in Alberta lingo-it would take 2 years to be an EMT and then 1 more year to be a Paramedic?

    curious about levels of training

SAIT still lists it as EMT-A probably in order to differentiate it from EMT-P. I think ACP does list is as EMT. I'm surprised no one from the U.S. forum would give me any insight.

    curious about levels of training

Hi I'm an EMR from Alberta and will be training as an EMT-A. I see a lot of different qualifications for different states. How does the training differ in the U.S. from Canada. Here an EMT diploma is 10 months and a Paramedic is two years. Average wage for an EMT is about $23/hr (as per job...

    too old for EMT?

Thanks, I feel a lot better about my decision.

    too old for EMT?

Yes, I am concerned about the strength of my back-I think my mind can handle it though! Yes I am from Alberta and will be going to SAIT in the fall. I'm just going to train as much as possible, take my schooling and let the chips fall where they may! I figure I've had a couple of careers so...

    too old for EMT?

Wow, that is inspiring-I think I'd have to work out a lot longer to reach that status! I really do want this and I'm just going to have to make it work!
