    Houston Area Training LT Jobs

FBEMS is simply one of the best departments I’ve seen. 99% of the medics I work with are gold and we have a great relationship with them (at least on my shift). You should definitely consider FBEMS!

    Fear mongering

Actually, I work for a suburb of Houston, not Houston itself. We're TMRS so I'm way happier with that than whatever HFD is throwing money into these days. But retirement is an elusive creature at best anyways. Lol! So I'm not holding my breath.

    Fear mongering

There seems to be ALOT of animosity in this forum. I'm an IAFF fire medic and couldn't be happier. Make plenty of medical calls and I love it. Money is really good, great retirement and excellent benefits. And I thank my union for that. I respect the other medics I work with on the ambulance...

Why do medics with the FD make more?

Some of these responses are dead on. if you want to be paid more, maybe try going to fire school and get hired on a fire department. That's what I did because I knew I didn't want to work IFT the rest of my life. Otherwise, if you're not happy or feel undervalued in this line of work....maybe...

Why do medics with the FD make more?

Getting back to the OP's original post....in my HUMBLE OPINION (as a FF/MEDIC who works for an IAFF represented FD) I believe we get paid more than the private EMS employees for a couple reasons: 1) we're dual role. Suppression and EMS. 2)Not to mention, everything that happens in between from...

    NREMT Failed, Advice?

Hey bud, 1 other thing to keep in mind as regards the questions asked in the NR is where in the assessment are you currently. For example: if you're question consists of "what do you do next?", make sure you re-read the question to make sure you aren't further along in the assessment than you...

OCFA to try Private Paramedics for 911 Transport

The education to get hired on a private outfit is the same as the education to get hired at a fire department (with the exception of fire academy). So, why not? The only difference is experience in a 911-style environment. But that's nothing that a good FTO and some serious pride in the job...
