FBEMS is simply one of the best departments I’ve seen. 99% of the medics I work with are gold and we have a great relationship with them (at least on my shift). You should definitely consider FBEMS!
Hey there! Former Clevelander here (Go Cavs, Tribe.....and the football team...lol). Anyways, great to hear you guys are hiring! Just curious what the age limit is in case anyone wants to know! Thanks!
Actually, I work for a suburb of Houston, not Houston itself. We're TMRS so I'm way happier with that than whatever HFD is throwing money into these days. But retirement is an elusive creature at best anyways. Lol! So I'm not holding my breath.
There seems to be ALOT of animosity in this forum. I'm an IAFF fire medic and couldn't be happier. Make plenty of medical calls and I love it. Money is really good, great retirement and excellent benefits. And I thank my union for that. I respect the other medics I work with on the ambulance...

The education to get hired on a private outfit is the same as the education to get hired at a fire department (with the exception of fire academy). So, why not? The only difference is experience in a 911-style environment. But that's nothing that a good FTO and some serious pride in the job...
FWIW....I worked a private in Cleveland (OH) until I got hired on a FD in Houston (TX). There's NO COMPARISON. The benefits and pay here are way better than back home. More professional and higher standards. Just what I noticed.
That being said, I'm a medic on a fire truck. Most of the guys...
