    Pediatric Training

I chose those because I am close to his level with, what I think, is a slightly stronger grip on the subject. For me, those two points seem to repeat themselves often in my basic scope of thinking. faster metabolic rate with medication administration or accidental consumptions; the size things...

    Pediatric Training

(The friendly version) Well, this is a BLS discussion. He is a trainee. For any interventions that he could possibly be concerned with, that is the easiest information for him to get ahold of to help him grasp the subtleties of what his job is. I put it very simply. I could have told him to...

BLS Skills -- What Should We Add?

Personally I think EMT's should be required to obtain a more substantial certification of non skill related education. For example, some Community colleges offer a 1 year EMT certificate, which includes Anatomy and Physiology, psychology, medical terminology, sociology, etc. I think that...

    Pediatric Training

Broselow tape is a good resource if you're not already using it and then the Pals book of course, but that is ALS. Other than that its just memorization. They metabolize quicker and have smaller bodies is the brunt of it I think.

Anyone working as an EMT and going to School, school

I'm currently doing my AEMT 3 nights a week along with A&P and computers. I work about 30 hours a week right now. Along with about to start volunteering at the fire department. I don't have any freetime at all unless I request a day off work.

    AEMT- Scope of practice issues

So, I am currently undergoing the “new” national AEMT training and have a few things I would like comment on. First, what is with the scope of practice? Pediatric IOs but no adult? It’s hard for me to see the reasoning behind that decision. (I’m from Oregon and that may just be the state's...

Know of any good "Realistic" EMS videos to learn from?

I've got an application in at a few hospitals right now already, it's just a matter of the right spot opening up, and even when it does I'm sure you're aware that most of that time will be spent making beds and such ;) And there is nothing wrong with that, it's more than I do now and I will be...

Know of any good "Realistic" EMS videos to learn from?

I don't have a lot of patient experience and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good videos out there, (Youtube, webisodes, etc.) that could help me gain insight into what things will be like responding to actual calls, or dealing with patients or scenarios so I don't look like such a...

    Treat on scene or transport?

Contemplate: To Thoroughly consider. Therefor they will take into account all information and determine if analgesics would be appropriate. Every situation is different, if they are tolerating the pain you shouldn't give them pain killers. (Because of: unknown allergies, pre-existing addictions...

Pt had been on the computer

I'd say it was a clot that broke and settled into a PE then re-broke and settled elsewhere that allowed adequate blood flow, with a bad pulse reading? possible drugs but the hospital would find that out later. Otherwise I'd bank on human or device error for the pulse fluctuation. If you think...

    Treat on scene or transport?

Hey, I am an EMT basic and haven't started working anywhere yet. I was just thinking about scenarios after watching an episode of Monk and realized that I am having a little trouble identifying when it is appropriate to treat a patient on scene or to transport and treat en route. What situations...

How do I get into Paramedic school???

I am currently an EMT-B in Oregon... I am trying to get started on my Paramedic but it is very competitive, and getting into the classes are extremely difficult. Now I know that every training facility is different and all, but I was hoping that anyone who has been through the process or is...
