  • Thanks for the info - I just finished an accelerated program to become a Paramedic and only now have checked this site! Sorry for the delayed response lol.

like you said, hopefully with medic experience and ACLS I will be able to get the kind of nursing position I want. If not, then I guess I will have to do my time ;) Its still a long way off - I begin classes toward my nursing requirements next semester. And yes, I'm looking into what I can CLEP. My husband has CLEP'd close to 60 credits!
    Howdy!
I was an experienced basic EMT when I left active duty USAF in '79 and went to nursing school thinking it was like a promotion. I was told to put the EMT stuff away because it was getting me sideways to what they were trying to teach me. Paramedic or EMT are not stairsteps, they are culturally different.

Paramedic for you should only be a money-earner while going for the prize, unless it opens doors for you in administration or other side-careers.

I see you wear the blue. Any chance you can CLEPS ot whatever out of any courses?

A sidebar: going straight to ER from nursing school is not easy and might not be possible, depending upon the hiring hospital's policies. They are sure to be swamped with that sort of thing, and many here require you to have experience elsewhere in nursing such as on their floors, have your ACLS. Maybe Paramedic would be an aid for that!
Anyway, good luck, marriage first, best to you both!
