There aren’t openings frequently enough for one base to get noticeably more new people than others. Yes, our protocols are from the county we’re based in. Personally I work off Riverside County protocols even if we respond to neighboring counties.

Sorry for the delay, I haven’t logged in for awhile. There are several flight officer/medic openings currently but there are also lots of patrol positions open too. The department prioritizes patrol spots over flying so the air program is pretty low staffing wise until the patrol side gets...

Caught on camera: Firefighter draws gun on driver at highway scene in North Carolina

As a Monday morning quarterback, these guys messed up. The guy who *almost* gets run over gets out of the way and doesn't raise his rifle to shoot. Good on him. You can even see in his shadow he doesn't join in with the others after he moves. I would be worried about the future if I was whoever...

Caught on camera: Firefighter draws gun on driver at highway scene in North Carolina

Policy for my department is similar to what @Tigger mentioned. We can't put ourselves in harms way in an attempt to justify deadly force. There's more to it than one line but that's the main idea. Overall our policy is usually pretty restrictive and based on relevant case law. I have only...

Caught on camera: Firefighter draws gun on driver at highway scene in North Carolina

Looks like an over zealous volunteer. Guns like his don’t stop cars like hers with any resemblance of reliability.

    Question for EMTs/Paramedics

Stands for Too Long; Didn’t Read. Usually used when somebody writes a wall of text or quotes something and instead of reading the whole thing they summarize it for you.

    Helmet Scuff

I don’t have a real answer for you other than soap and water. Would Goo Gone chew up the helmet? More stickers can always help though.

Pt4 There’s also a benefit to putting in time going to units and making an impression before an opening becomes available. They can get a better feel for you over time compared to a 30 minute interview.

Pt2 There are a few other things that can influence being hired. We have 7 bases across the state with paramedics. Some are more desirable than others.

Couple parts here cause it’s too long. Pt1 Not specifically. The main prerequisites for Flight Officer / Paramedic spots are at least 2 years of patrol with our department and a paramedic license.

    Transferring to CARE/McCormick

@DrParasite, rather than reply to all your points I’ll just reference where I said my full time, non private job, doesn’t have these problems and the quote from @jgmedic

    Transferring to CARE/McCormick

To make a long answer short, condescending combined with lacking knowledge of EMS operations outside the dark dispatch room. Ive been told I’m on the correct road and to “just keep going” because of where the AVLS/unit GPS put us on his map. We were on a dirt road that dead ended into a...

    Transferring to CARE/McCormick

I know you’re asking about different companies but to second @jgmedic, Hemet and Desert Cities/Palm Springs are much better places to work and everybody is generally happier than at Riverside. There is much less us vs them with management without having a union. Pay wise both the other...
