Are you taking into consideration the amount of time that has passed since these threads were started and you deciding to show up and apply "medicolegal" analysis, because things may have been held to a different standard back then. That's a danger with necroposting...what you think now may not have been the standard back then.
I wouldn't say that's entirely correct. A paramedic is a specialist in prehospital care. Most RN's aren't. If an RN were to testify about prehospital care, that would require an extensive exam into that RN's education, training, and experience specifically in the area of prehospital care to determine if that RN is, in fact, an expert in prehospital care. The same could be said about a paramedic testifying about ED/In-hospital care.
This is only a partially true statement. Each state sets a basic scope of practice for the RN, that part is true. Attaining an ACLS certification is not typically necessary for RN licensure. It may be necessary for practice in a given specialty as an RN, but this would be above and beyond basic RN licensure. The NCLEX exam does not have ACLS certification as a prerequisite.
The NCLEX has ACLS built into it as a portion of the test battery.

Actually, NCLEX may seem to have ACLS baked into it but one does not need to know ACLS to pass it. The two exams are built very differently. I cannot get much more specific as to content of the NCLEX as there's effectively an NDA in place about the actual exam.

And you can do the same to some random paramedic. And the reasoning is not what you say, that is not because the medic or RN is necessarily the more appropriate provider. The reasoning is that you have jurisdictional authority and medical direction granting you authority to practice under a licensed practitioner with standing orders. You cannot verify that some random RN has standing orders and authority to use them in a freelance good sam scenario. Same for a random medic.
The whole ACLS thing is a silly part of this discussion. That said, many many many RNs have ACLS outside of ED/ICU. IMC, IR, CCL, preop, PACU, OR, and most procedural RNs do. Even some med-surg RNs do depending on the facility. Sure your LTC, office nurses, and school nurses probably don't.
Yes, I snipped a bit… but suffice it to say that when I’m actually working as a CCT-RN, I’m clearly on-duty and not a “random” nurse. We Paramedics don’t normally question if a flight RN can provide ALS care on-scene so I know that allowing on-duty transport nurses to provide that care is possible and if an EMS agency says otherwise, well if that were true, flight programs wouldn’t be able to do scene calls. For off-duty stuff, we’re in 100% agreement. I probably didn’t say it well enough earlier, but I was more concerned about being on-duty and having someone walk up to my unit and have (or alert us to) an emergency. It doesn’t happen often but in the years I’ve been active doing EMS and IFT transport, it has happened to me once or twice.
