Hello, I am a EMT Basic Student. I have not been doing as well as I have wanted to on my tests, when I look back at my tests that I have been taking I notice that the majority of the questions that I miss is because I can't seem to connect the correct illness to the correct sign and symptom and how to treat it. I was just wondering if this is normal as a Basic in school and what you guys have as pointers or if you know of a site that breaks down common illnesses and such, to lead me and that direction if you could.

I would really appreciate the help,

Thank you.

Do you have poor test taking skills or do you not know the material? How many weeks in are you?

Interpreting signs and symptoms, creating a working diagnosis, and initiating appropriate treatment are all things a basic should be able to do. The best resource for you is your textbook (are you even reading it?), your class notes, and your instructor. It can be difficult at first, but you really should be able to determine if it's cardiac, Neuro, respiratory, diabetic, allergy, OB, or trauma. There is only so much you can do as a basic just remember A>B>C

I would agree with the previous post and read the book and make sure you understand what you are reading. Also with this being new to you it takes time to put all the pieces together and experience with patient care and your questioning. Hope this helps.

It's honestly a little bit of both, I am in my 13th week.

Give us an example of the type of thing you're having issues with. Really, most of the signs and symptoms and the correlating conditions are pretty simple when being addressed at the BLS level.
