I am in the process of signing up to take the REMAC. I am an out of practice medic. I graduated in August 2012 and haven't done much since then due to relocating to NYC. I was wondering if someone could give me some information on what to expect from the exam. From what I understand as someone who is not previously certified I will still have a scenario portion to my exam. Does anybody have any good study sites to use specifically for the REMAC? I emailed them the other day about registering so hopefully I will hear back soon. Any information you have or websites I would appreciate. Anybody else studying to take the exam this month or next hit me up, a study group would be great.

The best, and only, thing I would suggest is just to learn the protocols parrot fashion from the REMAC website. It's a test on memory not knowledge, so just keep going over them until they are memorized. You need to know when standing orders stop and when MC options continue, drug dosages for adults and peds, FDNY EMS SOPs, etc.

Funnily enough, they have recently put the new protocols up on their webpage so make sure you know which version you will be examined on.

The oral scenario test is OK. Some people can be a little intimidated by it as it can be a little regimented. You will have a little chat with one of the FDNY guys on 3 scenarios - usually one adult trauma, one adult medical, and one pediatric. Again, all you need to know are the protocols - they don't want you thinking outside the box. For example, I don't believe you will typically be asked to explain why you are performing a particular intervention, just when and how.

Chris Swanson is the guy who can steer you in the right direction.

Ah, I heard they were doing that. Didn't realize it was already implemented.

Safe to say now then that it was probably the least favorite part of the exam for most.
