I've got a quick question about EMT cert reciprocity between CA and New York State. According to this link the requirements for reciprocity state the applicant must have taken state recognized practical skills and written examinations within the past three years, which I have. However, because CA only issues certs for 2 years (:censored:), mine has expired recently. NYS issues for 3 years. So basically I'm wondering if you guys think I'll qualify for direct reciprocity or not because my CA cert is expired.

If I can't get certification based on my state card I can probably still get a letter to take a NYS refresher course (which I will need to do eventually) because my NREMT doesn't expire until next year.

Anyone have any experience moving from CA to NYS?

Use the nremt to take a ny Refreasher and you should be fine.call the nys doh

What firecoins said.

What area are you moving to?

The government/tax economy in NYS sucks, but it's otherwise an amazing state.

Good luck!

I've already moved. I'm living in NYC with some family while I try to get my life together. haha. I originally came here to get a job in science but it's been extremely difficult. Thought I would take advantage of having the EMT training and maybe get to work that way. It seems there are a bunch of companies in the city so I'm sure there must be openings somewhere. I'd really like to apply to FDNY seeing as how the application period is open right now, but I'm not going to have my NYS EMT cert by the 25th when the cycle closes :(
